Sante Fe Townhouse
Located in an urban setting in New Mexico, the Sante Fe Townhouse is a one-bedroom residence integrated with a small business on the street level. This project specialized in teaching strategic organization due to the confinements of the narrow, urban site. The project also introduces the challenge of working with neighboring townhouses. My design was just one in a series of designs that line up side-by-side along a street. The unique site I was given sits at a corner opening up more potential along the long façade.
Model

The room layout began as an assembly of wooden blocks allowing for quick analysis and reconfiguration. After multiple iterations of study models, the most efficient design was selected. This particular townhouse provides more space for the residence while sacrificing some commercial space.

The commercial space, completely separate from the residence, is a martial arts studio that sits at the front end of the building. On the corner, large windows invite outsiders to acknowledge the activities within.

The ground level of the residence is the public space. The living and kitchen space collide to create an open floor gathering area. From the living room, residents can access the exterior space where they can tend to their garden or entertain guests.
