Beach House
Also referred to as the "Crow's Nest", this beach camping structure is designed for a four-person family located on the dunes of an isolated, semi-tropical Atlantic beach. The structure is off the grid which encourages passive design, strategic privacy, and connections to the natural world. The Beach House project is meant to be an adventurous experience where the family can enjoy the leisure of vacation.

The beach house is constructed with a variety of basswood materials. The durable wood base provides a grid of holes for the insertion of the basswood rods. This project taught realistic methods of wood construction.

The program for the beach house required two bedrooms, one bathroom, a gathering space, and an observation deck. The bedrooms needed natural ventilation as well as privacy so the wall to each bedroom faces the central core of the structure. This blocks views into the room while letting ocean breezes to fenestrate the space.

An intimate space on the ground level houses the cast iron stove, an extension of the program. This enables visitors to cook and keep warm.
